What is RSS?

Click on any Orange RSS button (green on my blog, but typically orange everywhere else) in the upper right hand corner to get the latest updates from my blog. You’ll find RSS (a.k.a. feeds) buttons on almost every website and blog.

Once you subscribe, you can have your favorite websites and blogs come directly to you. No need to go out and check for updates all the time. No need for bookmarks!

“RSS” means “Really Simple Syndication.” But that’s just another way of saying that you can keep up with any and all updates I make on my blog without having to check back every week to see “what’s new.” New pages and updates to old ones are released through RSS and will come directly to you once you subscribe.

How do you get started? It’s simple!

You only need two things to subscribe to any RSS feed:

An RSS Reader and the url of the site/blog in which you want to receive the updates.

Download a free RSS Reader below or you can choose another if you have one in mind. This is special software that reads the RSS feeds…

Copy and paste the following url of my blog into whichever free RSS reader you choose. http://feeds.feedburner.com/blog-old-dog-treats-and-rawhide/

Windows
www.rssreader.com/

Google
Google Reader

Mac — NetNewsWire
Mac — NetNewsWire

Once you’re set up, here’s all you have to do…

Right-click (or control-click for Mac users) on the green or orange RSS button on any page of this blog, or any blog or news source that interests you. Copy shortcut – Select Copy Shortcut (“Copy Link to Clipboard” on a Mac), and paste that URL into your RSS Reader.

That’s it! You’ll be subscribed.

Thank you for the instructions about signing up for RSS feeds. It’s always been a bit confusing to me. Seldom does anyone tell you that you need to have the RSS Reader in order to get the feeds. I tried clicking on the googlereader.com but it said the page couldn’t be found. The windows rssreader.com works, though, so I downloaded that. Thanks again.
