Why Feeding The Best Dog Food Matters
Choosing the best dog food is a topic that I write about often. Why? Because your dog’s food is the foundation for his complete wellness and good health. Outside of genetics, it’s what makes a difference in everything about a dog.
This is preventative maintenance at it’s best, so don’t minimize it’s importance. Instead, place feeding the best dog food you can afford at the top of the list when caring for your dog. Make it a priority and stay with it. Don’t waiver!
A Few Quick Reasons Why Dog Food Quality Matters
- The ingredients in cheaper low quality dog food brands are typically inferior and believed to cause many skin conditions in dogs as well as food allergies. Keep in mind that there are many dog foods out there masked as a ” best dog food ” when they’re the complete opposite. Marketing and hype play a big role in what people believe.
- Dog anal gland issues are often related to dog allergies. Allergies can be airborne or food related and your dog can have one or the other, or both. Feeding a high grade food can really help a great deal with ongoing anal sac issues.
- Ongoing ear infections are often related to dog food problems.
- Soft stool and diarrhea can be symptoms of dog food intolerance especially if you’ve been to the vet and your dog has a clean bill of health otherwise.
- Excessive gas and bloating
- Eating other dog’s feces or their own a.k.a. Coprophagia and be an indicator that your dog isn’t getting what he needs nutritionally.
The above reasons and symptoms are just a few of many ways to tell that your dog’s food may not be agreeing with him. Of all the ways that you care for your dog; the absolute best way to care for her is by feeding a top of the line all natural dog food.
Here’s a list of the 10 best dog food brands if you could use a little help deciding.

Ohh I totally agree with you………that’s why I’ve fed “raw” for the last year or so.
Hi Eve:
Many people have great success with raw and you sound like you might be one of them. My dobie did very well on raw and the only reason I switched was that it was easier for me if both dogs were fed the same food. That’s when I was home cooking for them.
Give your dobie a hug for me – I love them! ~Janie
