Introducing The Old Dog Photo Contest
Do you have an older dog? If so, why not enter your fur baby into our old dog photo contest for a chance to win one of 7 great prizes! Scroll down to the very bottom of this page to enter your dog in the contest.
I thought it was time to give those adorable seniors there own contest specifically for doggies nine and over.
They’ve certainly earned the right with no competition from their younger counter parts.
Everyone that knows me well, knows that I have a soft spot for old dogs. Those gray muzzles and gentle eyes just melt my heart every time. That’s why I thought a contest for dog pictures, but specifically for old dogs would be a nice idea.
While most people go for the puppies, I was always drawn to the older, calmer dogs. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE puppies, but it’s the seniors that tug at my heart strings.
With this in mind, I decided to add a dog pictures contest to my blog. The theme of course – older dogs.
Our Sponsors & Prizes
Each month we will choose seven lucky winners for the old dog photo contest.
Our wonderful friends at www.seniorpetproducts.com are sponsoring our online contest and providing a $20 gift certificate to one lucky winner. The winner can do a little shopping at their excellent pet product store for senior pets online.
Thanks Senior Pet Products for sponsoring our contest just for our gray muzzled friends. We all appreciate your generosity.
Our next wonderful sponsor is Woodrow Wear the makers of those amazing Power Paws. If you haven’t heard of these yet – let me share a little about them. They are non-slip socks made specifically for dogs. I absolutely LOVE this product!
They are great for older dogs who have difficulty getting up from hard surfaces or even just walking and standing. They’re great for hard wood and linoleum flooring. Also perfect for paw related injuries. I want to “thank” Woodrow Wear for sponsoring our old dog contest and for their generosity of donating 1 pair (4 socks) of the fabulous Power Paws.
Our third prize for the dog photo contest for old dogs comes from me. I’m sponsoring this one myself. Since most seniors still love their treats and goodies, I am giving away a $15 gift certificate from Barbara’s Canine Catering. Your special pooch has a great selection of all natural treats to choose from.
Our fourth prize for the dog photo contest for old dogs comes from Barbara’s Canine Catering themselves. The wonderful folks over at Barbara’s Canine Catering aka k9treat.com have decided to match my gift certificate of $15 with another one! Thank you Barbara’s Canine Catering, we REALLY appreciate it!
Our next prize is an awesome $20.00 gift certificate towards the dog collar of your choice from our great friends DogCollarsBoutique.com.
The selection of dog collars they have will Wow you! I remember the first time I looked around their site; I couldn’t believe the amazing selection. Thanks DogCollarsBoutique.com for helping us out with our monthly contest.
Another really great prize! Because I’m such a stickler about feeding dogs a healthy, natural, premium diet; this is one of my favorite prizes! It’s never too late to start feeding your dog a healthy diet.
Grandma Lucy’s is donating one 3# bag of their Artisan dog food monthly to our contest. A 3# bag makes 17 # of food. Simply add warm water and you have an all natural, grain free food that is very close to home made. Thank you Grandma Lucy’s for your generosity!
Our final prize is from our buddy’s over at “The Honest Kitchen“. If you follow me via fb, twitter, etc. then you know how much I love their products. I have many posts here on my blog about their dog foods.
THK is donating one box of either their Nuzzles or Pecks to a lucky dog monthly. Thanks Honest Kitchen for all your continued support of our contest for old dogs!

Hi Judith:
I’m actually working on adding a system to my blog so that all the old dog photo’s from the contest can be seen right here. I’ll let you know as soon as I get it up and running (soon I hope).
Thanks Judith.
Janie
Just sent my entry – please let me know you got it OK.
Hi, I have been trying to upload a 100 kb photo that is 400 by 291 pixels and I keep receiving the message that it is too large. The form says the limit is 100 kb… Do I need to go smaller? Thank you.
I’m not sure if my entry went through it was about the beautiful Danny a 13 year old corgi
Love your older dog contest. My wife and now I, has a 9.5 yr Rottie named Tyson. He is a tall lanky guy with a heart of gold. He got diabetes last year but is hanging on well. He lost 45 lb in 4 months which is part of how we found out he was sick. He hasn’t lost any of his personality however. He knows when you are hurting and is there as only he can be. He talks a lot (growls) and a vet not familiar with him advised us to put him down once. We stopped seeing that vet. One look into his eyes and you will know he isn’t viscous he is just talkative. He has a great smile too. He has trouble jumping on the bed now and most often needs some help. This embarrasses him so he puts on a big show of snarling while we are helping him but will then turn and give me a big kiss to say thank you.
Oh is Tyson cute Brad. I can see how image is important to him, lol!
Thank you so much for your kind words regarding the contest. They have earned the right to have their very own contest with no competition from the young stuff.
Janie

Hello Janie
I just wanted to let you know, that my beautiful active Senior corgi
Ivan aged of only 11( entered in the September photo contest) has suddenly without any warning passed away. I am shattered. He was fine in the morning and afternoon ate his food without any problems.(yesterday Australia Time)
Then later in the afternoon his breathing became shallow and his head was shaking slightly. I rang the vet and we drove to the surgery, however he did not make it, the vet said his lungs let him down possibly fluid on his lungs and he wasn’t getting any oxygen and asphyxiated so quickly.
How does a healthy happy and extremly active dog suddenly die like that?
I need to know the answer, it is is breaking my heart.
He had all his regular checkups and vacs. Do you know of any other cases like this? We buried him this morning. Life will never be the same. For any of your dog lovers who have lost their best friend I share your grief.
Hi Edith:
I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am about adorable Ivan. I remember Ivan quite well with his little tongue stuck out in the picture. I feel terrible Edith because I truly feel your pain and I know the heartache all too well. Did Ivan have anything done recently like vaccinations, flea-tick meds, etc.?
I will check into this a little further for you Edith. I struggle everyday with the loss of my dogs. It’s been a 1-1/2 years since Lulu passed after 16 years and it’s so hard, even now. You are in my prayers Edith and although I know this doesn’t offer much comfort right now; I know in my heart that our dogs just have to go to Heaven – because it wouldn’t be Heaven without them.
Here for you anytime. I’ll check into this tomorrow sometime o.k.
Your friend,
Janie
Thank you Janie for responding so quickly it means a great deal to me.I just knew you would understand
Ivan had his anual shots in August and as always the vet said his heat beat was strong.
I still can’t believe it, even though I have sat near grave not long ago.
Ivan looked so peaceful this morning as I patted his beautiful red fur; he just looked he was having a sleep.
it happened so quickly I don’t think there was any pain.
You’re very welcome Edith and I’ll do some checking tomorrow and touch base with you then o.k. You take it easy…..
Hi Edith:
I’ve been thinking of you and I hope that you’re doing as well as can be expected. Since you said that Ivan’s heart was normal and healthy based upon his last visit; I was wondering if it was some sort of respiratory problem? Pneumonia, etc. which I guess it was since fluid was in the lungs. Anyway, I found this page that discusses some of Ivan’s symptoms that I thought might be worth reading. I’ll continue to look and see if there’s anything else that might indicate why this happened.
I guess the vet had no idea as to why he developed fluid in his lungs?
Your friend,
Janie
I added a picture of my 9 year old, Caleb. Hope it went through.
Yep, we got it Ruth. Good luck!
Hi Janie
‘Just wanted to say a SPECIAL THANK YOU to you for entering Danny in the last photo contest.
We walked to the PO yesterday and there was a parcel
addressed to him.
Danny was of course very excited and has a treat every day.
yum! he reckons that he can taste the difference between these biscuits and the commercial bickies.
Danny has laryngits at the moment so he can’t talk, but he sends you a big lick and the biggest smile!
Thanks Janie , you definitely have two fans
