Me and the gang!

YourOldDog.com is a blog directed towards those with dogs interested in information on dog health, nutrition, skin problems, etc. Since I love older dogs, I share a great deal of information on caring for your furry senior. On the other hand, much of my information applies to dogs in general.

You will also find information on Entrepreneurship and utilizing your own knowledge to create a website or niche blog just like this one.

What You Can Expect From My Blog

My blog is actually an extension of my original website www.old-dog-treats-and-rawhide.com where you will find hundreds of articles on many, many dog topics.

  • On the serious side, my goal is to provide you with the best information possible regarding dog health, skin, nutrition and product reviews for your older dog. You will find a collection of articles on all of these topics, plus information on how I make a living with my website and blog.
  • I update my blog regularly with fresh content including “How To” articles that are helpful for all dog owners.
  • On the lighter side, I hope that we can share stories about our dogs; funny and humorous stories that will make everyone laugh. :o

Who Is Janie?

Hi, I’m Janie and I’m the author and entrepreneur behind both YourOldDog.com and Old-Dog-Treats-And-Rawhide.com Most of my readers are of course dog owners and dog lovers probably alot like yourself.

I’ve loved dogs since the day my older brother brought me home my first 6 week old puppy. Her name was Josephine (my dad named her after himself, Joseph). Her little black and white head was sticking out of my brothers big green army jacket. It was the middle of winter and he kept her warm in his pocket while walking home.

Joe developed Parvo Virus and died at the age of eight and I was devastated. From that day forward and with each new dog, I learned what I could about dogs by reading, observing and conducting my own research. My goals are still the same today and I’m always looking for the best ways to maintain their health and increase their longevity.

My husband and I have always rescued our dogs from shelters and local rescue groups. When it comes to their health and maintenance (and ours as well), I believe that it’s important to NOT flood the body with man made medicines and chemicals. This isn’t to say that I don’t believe traditional medicine is necessary, because I do.

However, I also believe that nature has given us some very powerful natural medicines including supplements and Chinese herbs. Both traditional and holistic medicines can work well together.

I also feel that nutrition and exercise are key to keeping dogs healthy no matter what the age. I’ve had tremendous success with our dogs by following a healthy diet and supplements, daily exercise and by using holistic medicines when our dogs are sick and I’ll share all my experience and information with you too. I want you and your dog(s) to benefit from my experience with my dogs including health tips for your old dog (and dogs of all ages), nutritional guidance, dog skin issues and much more.

Get Involved and Stay Involved

I would also like to encourage you to get involved with our audience of dog owners by commenting and subscribing. Dog owners are typically friendly and caring people. So, pay it forward and help someone else with your knowledge about dogs.

I hope that you enjoy my blog and I look forward to talking with you soon! Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog feed!

Hi Janie,
This is Holly from the Much About The Mutt Blog. You have wonderful information on your blog. A lot of good reading is ahead of me.

I added your blog address to my blog list. I want others to know about you valueable information’

I’m also looking forward to the bloat interview with the Great Dane Lady. I have never had a dog with bloat, but I am always worried. I know a few things on prevention, but that is all. This is a subject that I don’t hear much about from vets or in my circle of agility dog friends.

BTW, what do you know about root canals for dogs? Lucas bottom canine tooth has worn down / chipped, to the point some nerves are exposed. The vet said I could either have it pulled or have a root canal.
I haven’t a chance to research this yet and wanted to see if you knew anything?

Thank you,
Holly

Hi Holly:
It’s so nice to hear from you. Thank you so much for your kind words and I felt the same way when I was reading your blog. Like you, I also have a regular website as well http://www.old-dog-treats-and-rawhide.com where you can find an abundance of information. My 10 best dog food list seems to be very popular with many dog owners.

You offer some really neat and cool doggie products on your site. I particularly liked that fleece body suit your dobie was wearing. I might have to invest in one of those for Jenna. I will be sure to go through you in the event that you are an affiliate. I will add your blog to my blog roll too for all those dog agility enthusiasts out there.

My interview with the great dane lady was 5 hours long and we covered a good bit of information. The issue of raised bowls is a topic we discuss in regards to bloat, because dog owners are lead to believe that they are bad (not true).

I don’t know much about root canals in dogs Holly, I wish I could say that I did. Here is a nice article from a Vet’s point of view on root canals, however, I would highly recommend researching a little more and getting other dog owners points of view as well. A vet is going to tell you that it’s absolutely necessary; my thought is – it depends where the tooth is and how much it will really impact his chewing, etc. if you have it removed.

You’re very welcome and I will be stopping by on occasion to visit Lucas.
